Quick Fix for Your Zigbee2MQTT Button

I recently published a video about breaking Zigbee2MQTT update but I failed to notice a second breaking change that has been plaguing me for a while.

They removed the Zigbee "Button Click" or Action Entity from buttons!

My buttons stopped working and I thought it was a battery issue, only to find that didn't fix it.

The solution is to grab it from the "MQTT Device Trigger" with an automation inside of HomeAssistant. Which really doesn't work for me since most of my automations are in Node-Red.

Using the Node-Red "MQTT In" node, we can listen for the single click coming out of the zigbee button.

Don't have time to change your automations?

Inside of the Zigbee2MQTT Settings, HomeAssistant Integration section, you can check a box to enable "Home Assistant Legacy Action Sensors" - BUT these are deprecated and will be removed in the future.
