Chuck Builds a PC

Follow along as I build a PC. With over 16 years of experience, I decided to film this build, though I wish I had done a better job with the filming and scripting. Regardless, I believe there’s still some value in sharing this with you. While this isn’t meant to be the ultimate guide, it’s more of a step-by-step recording of a build I was going to do anyway. One day, I might create a more polished "guide," but this is more of a casual, follow-along (even ASMR-like) experience.

Initially, this video was nearly two hours long, and I tried hard to cut out the fluff and speed up repetitive steps like using the screwdriver, without having too many jump cuts or skipping too much. Overall, I’m not entirely satisfied with how it turned out, but it’s been a massive editing effort, and frankly, I’m ready to move this off my to-do list. Perhaps, I’ll give it another go and try to create an even shorter version with more narration. But for now, I’m happy to publish this with my notes and thoughts.

And before anyone asks, yes, I used too much thermal paste! I cleaned it off before the final install.

Parting Comments on This Build:

  • Gigabyte is not my favorite motherboard company.
  • EXPO mode for RAM only works with 2 sticks, not 4, and I spent way too much time figuring that out.
  • RAID 0 in BIOS and Windows is convoluted. You’ll need to install the drivers three times, sequentially, for it to work. The manual mentions it, but doesn’t highlight just how strange this process is.
  • I couldn’t get a decent memory clock to save my life.
